Demand Gen vertical to landscape video: make a native 16:9
Google says Demand Gen will soon turn vertical video into landscape. If you want control over that crop, generate a native 16:9 version and compare.

Google's June 2026 Demand Gen Drop says Demand Gen "will soon support broader aspect ratio transformations, including vertical to square, vertical to landscape and square to landscape". If you would rather decide how the 16:9 version looks, ask your video model for a native 16:9 file next to the 9:16 one and compare the two.
Google's statement is from its June Drop post, read 2026-09-30; the post says "soon", so the page gives no rollout date. Sume's ratio facts are from the video generation docs.
What does Google actually say?
One sentence: transformations among vertical, square and landscape, to make it easier to optimize ads across screens. The snapshot does not describe how the conversion is done or how to preview it, so treat the output as something to review rather than assume.
Which aspect ratios can Sume generate?
The Video API lists aspect_ratio values of auto, adaptive, 21:9, 16:9, 4:3, 1:1, 3:4 and 9:16. The models endpoint returns supported_aspect_ratios per model, and the docs say to check it before submitting a request.
| Orientation | Value | Where to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Vertical | 9:16 | supported_aspect_ratios on the model |
| Square | 1:1 | supported_aspect_ratios on the model |
| Landscape | 16:9 | supported_aspect_ratios on the model |
How do I compare a native 16:9 with Google's conversion?
Submit the same prompt and references twice, once with aspect_ratio set to 9:16 and once to 16:9. Upload the vertical file and, as a separate asset, the native landscape file, then look at framing of the subject and any on-screen text. That comparison is yours to run; this post makes no claim about which result wins.
When is reframing after generation the better route?
If the clip already exists and you cannot regenerate it, see reframing aspect ratio after generation. For file limits on the Google side, see Demand Gen video ad specs.

- Demand Gen video crop and trim tool vs an API crop and trim
