TikTok AI label or your own caption, sticker or watermark
TikTok lets you disclose AI content with its AIGC label or your own clear caption, sticker or watermark. Burn a caption or add an overlay plate with Sume.

Yes. TikTok's guidelines say you must label AI content or significant edits that show realistic-looking people or scenes, and that you "can add your own clear caption, sticker, or watermark" as well as using TikTok's AIGC label. With Sume you can burn your own disclosure line into the clip using POST /v1/video-captions with authored cues, or place an image plate on it with Timeline compose.
Guideline text read 2026-09-30. This is a mapping of tools to the page, not legal advice or a ruling on any video.
What does TikTok accept as disclosure?
The page lists two routes for required disclosure: the AIGC label, or a clear caption, watermark or sticker you add yourself. It does not give a wording or a size, only that the disclosure must be clear.
| Route | Who adds it | Sume tool that can make it |
|---|---|---|
| AIGC label | You, in TikTok's own flow | None; it is a TikTok control |
| Your own caption | You | Video captions with cues |
| Your own watermark or sticker | You | Timeline compose overlay with an image plate |
How do I burn a disclosure line into the video?
Send video_url plus cues, each with text, start and end in seconds. Authored cues skip speech-to-text, so a silent clip works; without cues, a silent clip fails as caption_no_speech. See Video captions and the general guide to burning captions.
const res = await fetch("https://api.sume.com/v1/video-captions", {
method: "POST",
headers: {
Authorization: "Bearer " + process.env.SUME_API_KEY,
"Content-Type": "application/json",
"Idempotency-Key": "disclosure-caption-001",
},
body: JSON.stringify({
video_url: "https://example.com/clip.mp4",
cues: [{ text: "AI-generated video", start: 0, end: 4 }],
}),
});
console.log(res.status, await res.json());How do I add a watermark or sticker plate instead?
Timeline compose with operation: "overlay" puts one Sume-hosted still over one Sume-hosted video. position is top, center or bottom, width_ratio runs 0.05 to 1 of the width, and the plate keeps its aspect. Both image.url and video.url must be on media.sume.com, so import them first with POST /v1/media-imports. Details: Timeline compose.
Which route should I pick?
A text line is the least work and needs no design file. A plate suits a recurring brand mark. Either way, check the result at phone size before posting. For the YouTube equivalent, see YouTube disclosure and burned captions.
