TikTok AI label for cropping or reframing: not needed
TikTok says disclosure isn't needed for small edits like color correction, reframing or cropping. See which Sume crop, fit and trim settings are those edits.

No. TikTok's page says disclosure isn't needed when "making small edits like color correction, reframing, or cropping." The label requirement applies to AI use or significant edits that show realistic-looking people or scenes, so a crop or a vertical reframe of footage does not by itself trigger it. A crop that changes what someone appears to say would.
Read 2026-09-30 from TikTok's integrity and authenticity guidelines (version 2026H2update). The significantly-edited side is covered in which Timeline edits count.
Which Sume settings are reframing or cropping?
The video filter crop takes a rectangle as fractions of the source frame, and Timeline's fit decides how a clip fills the output. Both change framing, not content.
| Operation | Setting | Documented behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Crop | ops[].op: "crop" | x, y, width, height as fractions of the source frame |
| Fit in Timeline | video[].fit | cover (default), contain, stretch, blur |
| Output size | output.width / height | Default output is 1080x1920 MP4 |
| Re-encode on trim | precision: "exact" | Frame-accurate re-encode (libx264, yuv420p) |
How do I test a crop before I pay for it?
POST /v1/video-filter/check runs the same schema and source preflight as the encode and returns diagnostics. It creates no job, reserves no credits and needs no Idempotency-Key. A valid response has valid, diagnostics[] and a next_action of submit_video_filter or fix_program_and_recheck.
curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/video-filter/check \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"video_url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/artf_demo/talk.mp4",
"ops": [{ "op": "crop", "x": 0.2, "y": 0, "width": 0.6, "height": 1 }]
}'How do I reframe a landscape clip for vertical?
Put the clip in a Timeline video[] slot and keep fit at cover, or use contain or blur to keep the sides. Clips must already be on media.sume.com, so import them with POST /v1/media-imports. Crop x + width and y + height must each stay within 1, and the compiler even-rounds for yuv420p. More in Video filter.
Does a reframed AI-generated clip still need a label?
The exemption is about the edit. If the footage came from AI and shows realistic people or scenes, the AI rule still applies to it. Trim with a start and end that removes a sentence mid-thought is a significant edit by the page's own list, not a crop. The EU parallel is in Article 50 editing exemption.
