Photoroom Remove Background $0.02 per image vs Sume's rate
Photoroom's API lists Remove Background at $0.02 per image and Image Editing at $0.10. Sume's background removal is a per-image rate; costs for 100 to 10,000.

Photoroom's API pricing page lists Remove Background (Basic) at $0.02 per image and Image Editing (Plus) at $0.10 per image. Sume's background removal, POST /v1/rmbg-1.0/remove, is $0.0225 per image on its rate card. The two are billed the same way, per image, so the difference is the rate: $0.0025 per image.
Photoroom facts are from its pricing page, read 2026-10-01. The Sume rate is from the pricing rate card and the OpenAPI document served with the API reference.
What does Photoroom's page list?
Two tiers, a sandbox, and a free allowance. The page says the sandbox output is watermarked and that the account includes 10 free production Remove Background calls.
| Tier | Price per image | Note on the page |
|---|---|---|
| Remove Background (Basic) | $0.02 | 10 free production calls |
| Image Editing (Plus) | $0.10 | Edit tier |
| Sandbox | Free | Watermarked output |
What does Sume charge per cutout?
$0.0225 per image, with a 5.5% agent fee by default on top. The request takes an image_url and returns a PNG artifact with alpha, hosted on Sume's media domain. Sume's page does not list a watermarked sandbox, so test with a real image and look at the cost on GET /v1/usage.
What do 1,000 and 10,000 images cost?
Straight multiplication from the two per-image rates, before Sume's agent fee.
| Images | Photoroom Basic ($0.02) | Sume ($0.0225) |
|---|---|---|
| 100 | $2.00 | $2.25 |
| 1,000 | $20.00 | $22.50 |
| 10,000 | $200.00 | $225.00 |
Is cutout price the only cost to plan for?
No. If a catalog photo then needs a larger size, upscale is its own item, and order matters; see remove background, then upscale, or the reverse. For bulk jobs, read remove backgrounds in bulk for how to submit many images.
