Reuse a social video as a YouTube ad: probe the file first
Google says social assets can run as YouTube ads if they meet specs. Probe the clip with Sume's unbilled video-inspect, then trim it if it is too long.

Google's October 1, 2026 post says you can reuse your social assets for YouTube ads if they meet the specs. Sume's POST /v1/video-inspect is the check: with frames: false it returns only the probe, is unbilled, and tells you what the file really is, so you compare it with Google's current spec before you upload.
Google facts are from its Ads & Commerce post, read 2026-10-01; it lists no numbers I can quote, so get the live specs from Google. Sume facts are from Video inspect.
How do I probe a clip?
Import the file first with POST /v1/media-imports, because inspect reads only media.sume.com URLs, and send an Idempotency-Key. The default mode is sync: it waits up to 30 seconds and answers 200, or 202 with a job to poll. The source can be up to 1800 seconds.
curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/video-inspect \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Idempotency-Key: probe-001" \
-d '{
"video_url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/artf_demo/social.mp4",
"frames": false
}'What if it fails the check?
If the clip is too long, cut it with POST /v1/video-trim ($0.02 per job). If it has no audio, probe.has_audio says so before you build on it. If the ratio is wrong, trim can set an output size, but check the framing yourself.
| Problem | Sume tool |
|---|---|
| Too long | Video trim, start plus duration |
| Unknown specs | Video inspect, frames: false |
| Wrong frame size | Video trim output, then review |
Should I make new clips instead?
Google's post also says to test gradually and favor quality over quantity, and notes that Asset Studio builds video from website URLs and photos. For Sume's own multi-format route see one prompt, two orientations. Confirm current specs on Google's page.
