Runway Recipe tasks vs Sume jobs: waiting on the result
A Runway Recipe returns a task you poll at GET /v1/tasks/{id}. A Sume generation returns a job: read status, fetch the result, never treat queued as failed.

Each Runway Recipe call returns a task. Runway's SDK examples wait for the finished output; with cURL you poll GET /v1/tasks/{id} for status and the output URL. Sume has the same shape under a different name: a paid generation returns a job, and you read it at GET /v1/jobs/{id}/status and GET /v1/jobs/{id}/result, or receive a webhook if you passed an HTTPS callback_url.
Runway details are from its recipe pages; Sume details from Video generation and Generation admission, read 2026-10-01.
How do the two lifecycles line up?
| Step | Runway recipe | Sume |
|---|---|---|
| Submit | POST to the recipe route | POST with an Idempotency-Key |
| Poll | GET /v1/tasks/{id} | GET /v1/jobs/{id}/status |
| Output | Output URL on the task | GET /v1/jobs/{id}/result |
| Push | Not described on these pages | callback_url, HTTPS only |
Which statuses should I expect?
The video poll response lists pending, in_progress, completed, failed and cancelled. The admission guide describes the lifecycle as queued, processing, then completed, failed or canceled. Either way, only the last three are terminal. Keep polling until the response says terminal: true, or until your own deadline.
Is queued a failure?
No. The docs say not to treat queued as failure: store the job_id, poll with exponential backoff, and fetch the result only when the job reports result_ready: true or status: completed. A job waits as queued when the workspace is at its concurrency limit but still has queue capacity.
What if my worker times out?
Do not resubmit the paid request because your local worker timed out. Re-read the same job id; a retry with the same Idempotency-Key returns the original job. For webhook handling see debug Sume webhook delivery.

- Runway SAFETY.INPUT credits not refunded: what Sume does
Runway does not refund credits for SAFETY.INPUT failures. Sume's docs describe one rule for failed jobs: the reservation is released or refunded.
- Seedance 2.5 1080p ratio 1920:1080 on Sume: resolution + aspect_ratio
Runway takes a 1080p ratio like 1920:1080. Sume takes two fields instead: resolution 1080p plus aspect_ratio 16:9, and rejects size on v1.
- Seedance 2.5 extend mode without ratio: how to continue a clip on Sume
Runway's extend mode needs promptText and no ratio. Sume has no extend flag: continue a clip with a first_frame image or a Video Router video_url edit.
- Seedance 2.5 references only, no prompt: Sume still needs a prompt
Runway's Seedance 2.5 text-to-video can omit promptText when a reference is given. On Sume the video `prompt` field is required, so send a short one.
