Ideogram API 402 Payment Required, and Sume image billing
Ideogram tool endpoints can return 402 for insufficient credits or quota. Sume image billing is all-or-nothing: failed generations are not billed.

A 402 from an Ideogram tool endpoint means the request was rejected for insufficient credits or quota. The Ad Variations reference lists it next to 400 and 401 and gives a reject_reason to tell you which limit you hit. Sume's image docs describe billing on the other side of that line: a generation is either completed and billed in full, or it fails and is not billed.
What does the Ideogram 402 contain?
The page describes the error as "Insufficient credits or quota", with an error message and a required reject_reason. The reasons it lists are in the table. Handle each differently: top up, change plan, wait for the daily reset, or lower concurrency.
| `reject_reason` | What it suggests |
|---|---|
insufficient_funds | Balance too low |
subscription_required | Plan needed for the feature |
daily_limit | Daily cap reached |
priority_credit_required | Priority credit needed |
inflight_limit | Too many in progress; max_inflight_requests may be present |
feature_limit | Feature-specific cap |
How does Sume bill a failed image?
The Image API docs say: "Image generation billing is all-or-nothing." Failed or cancelled generations are not billed, and failed requests return 502 Bad Gateway. Requests that end early because a client disconnected are billed as failed generations, which the page says means not at all.
What do I actually pay for a completed image?
Per the docs, endpoint pricing lines are the amount charged to your wallet, with Sume's margin already applied, so cost_usd times n is the charge. Read the live numbers from GET /v1/images/models rather than a blog table; see the Ideogram 4.0 catalog post.
Can a bad parameter cost me money?
A request that sets a parameter the selected model does not list is rejected with 400 unsupported_parameter rather than silently dropped. Check supported_parameters first so a typo fails at validation, not after a generation.
